people. places. things.
People. Places. Things. A world of exciting images just waiting to be painted.
After a lifetime of working, raising my three wonderful children, and making ends meet, I am now able to kick back and enjoy the years ahead spending time with the people I love and doing the things I like to do. Tops on that list is ART!
The images I've posted on this site are mostly created with either oil paints or pastels. Prior to my retirement, I never ventured into the world of color, preferring to stick with pencil or charcoal. Since taking classes from Jim, Larry and Ken (below), I've gotten some confidence to explore the use of color, which used to scare the heck out of me!
I am profoundly grateful to Grand Valley Artists, a Grand Rapids, Michigan, organization that enables me to paint alongside others several times a week. Among the members are some of Michigan's finest artists, who freely share their wealth of knowledge with me. I owe a special thanks to a few of my teachers, Ken Cadwallader, Jim Markle, and Larry Blovits. Their selfless sharing has helped me to improve my own skills, and I can always hear them reminding me to "squint, squint, squint," "use short, straight lines," and "measure, measure, measure." I love Ken's simple yet perfect admonishment to "paint what you see!"
If you see a painting you would like to purchase, use the Contact Me link at the top of the page. Paintings and pastels are priced at $1/inch, plus shipping. (e.g., $192 for 12" x 16"; $320 for 16" x 20", unframed). Most of the paintings are either 12" x 16" or 16" x 20". I also happily take commissions.
Thank you for visiting my website. I hope you enjoy my art!
